Alexis Salazar
Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP), Supervised by Shirley Nedock LPC-S, In-person & Telehealth
Hello, my name is Alexis Salazar and I’m currently a graduate student in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at the University of Texas in San Antonio.
My passion for counseling stemmed from my personal experiences with abuse and trauma. I grew up in an unstable environment where the existence of mental health was not acknowledged. This invalidated adverse experiences which caused me to struggle with my mental health. As an adult, counseling helped me heal and navigate difficult experiences. I know what it’s like when experiences and emotions are met with invalidation. I want to help people feel seen and heard.
I am also a part of the LGBTQ+ community. Counseling has given me guidance and helped me develop self-awareness. As a queer Hispanic woman, it was difficult to find DV survivor counseling groups where I felt seen. I am very passionate about creating a space for LGBTQ+ domestic violence survivors to begin or continue their counseling journey and share their unique experiences. With a person-centered and cognitive behavioral approach, I strive to create a safe, inclusive environment for my clients, where they can be vulnerable while embracing their individuality.
